EKA stationers in East Molesey kindly donate and print 4,000 leaflets which are
distributed to local families via nurseries, playgroups, nursery, infant and junior schools in the area. Over 100
posters are also put up around the area with really large ones in a few strategic positions.
Local schools such as Esher Cof E High, St Paul's Junior and Thames Ditton Junior lend us their dining
tables for the sale. A well organised group of men collect and deliver these for us.
On the Friday evening before the sale we lay out the hall with tables and dress rails prior
to the influx on Saturday morning.
Starting at 8.30am there is often a queue of people waiting to deposit their goods for sale. All
goods are signed in and the 40 or so helpers proceed to empty boxes and sort everything into age and gender categories.
The perk of working at the sale is that helpers are able to put aside anything they want to buy as they
are sorting. Many local families have been equipped and clothes from the sale - saving a fortune, whilst helping
the community and raising money for Cancer Research UK all at the same time!
Anything sold at the sale has the owners' label removed and retained so that we can calculate our sales.
Due to the popularity of the sale some clothes become separated from their labels. If these are not
claimed the following Tuesday these items are passed on the local charities or people in need.
At the end of the sale all items not sold are sorted back into boxes containing the owners' names for
collection the same evening. The tables are also returned to their schools.
The Monday and Tuesday following is spent sorting the labels from all the goods sold into alphabetical
order then into names so that we can then caculate how much we owe people less the 20% contribution for Cancer Research.
